The Generation & Evolution of Astrophysical Magnetic Fields
Ellen Zweibel
University of Wisconsin
Despite many years of progress in cosmology, the origin of magnetic fields
remains a mystery, and many aspects of how magnetic fields evolve and are
maintained are still unclear. I will review the current state of knowledge,
describe a scenario for magnetogenesis, and talk about the current state
of dynamno theory, including some nonstandard ingredients found only on
galactic and intergalactic scales.
