Galaxy groups: driving galaxy evolution since z=1

Galaxy clusters have proven to be a powerful environment for studying galaxy evolution, due to their homogeneity and high contrast with the background. However, it has become increasingly clear that environmental factors first become important in galaxy groups, that are up to 100 times less massive. Preprocessing within these environments largely determines the population that inhabits today's clusters. I will summarize some of the work done by the Group Environment and Evolution Collaboration (GEEC) to study these environments in detail, from 0<1. In particular, I will show how we can use these observations to constrain the timescale and mass-scale for environment-dependent galaxy transformations.
