New submits for the Observatoire du Mont-Mégantic
2010-01-11

The Observatoire du Mont-Mégantic (OMM) received a subsidy from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI), from the Québec government and from Universities, for a total of 11.7 millions of dollars. Those funds will be invested to support research and cutting-edge equipments and installations of international quality.

The Canadian Foundation for Innovation will provide more that 4.6 M$ and the Québec government will contribute an equivalent amount. The two subsidies will bring the funding dedicated to the OMM research infrastructure to 11.7 M$, since the Université de Montreal and the Université Laval are also taking part in this initiative with a 20 % contribution. The project of heightening of the OMM and of avant-garde astronomical instrument development will be realized under the direction of Prof. René Doyon of the Université de Montréal, assisted by the project engineer and professor at Université Laval, Simon Thibault.

The research projects and initiatives at the OMM will greatly expand with these funds. The investment was given on the occasion of the national announcement of the CFI, providing more than 354.4 M$ to 59 universities, colleges, hospitals and research centers in Canada.
